SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A 13-year-old Boy Scout left brain-dead by a California lightning strike that killed his troop leader was taken off a ventilator and pronounced dead -- the sixth fatality for the Boy Scouts of America this week.
Ryan Collins, of the Napa Valley wine country town of St. Helena, died on Friday night, a spokeswoman at the University Medical Center in Fresno told Reuters.
His troop was on a hike in Sequoia National Park on Thursday when lightning struck a tarp, killing leader Steven McCollough, 29, also of St. Helena.
