UFOs over Iran could be U.S. operations, extraterrestrial visitors or both

People in Iran, as in many other countries, have had interesting sightings of and encounters with unidentified flying objects (UFOs) over the years. Lately these sightings seem to have increased. Are Iranians seeing U.S. surveillance drones, extraterrestrial visitors, some combination of both or something entirely different?

According to a Jan. 19 report from the Fars News Agency (FNA) in Iran, a UFO was observed Wednesday, Jan. 17.

FNA reported, “A radiant unidentified flying object was again observed in the sky of Central Sepidar in the vicinity of Bouyer Ahmad in western Iran from 19:10 to 20:30 hours local time (15:40 to 17:00 GMT) Wednesday. Witnesses told FNA that the object has been observed for more than an hour.”

FNA reports said another case occurred two days prior on Jan. 15: “In a similar incident last Monday, an unidentified flying object was witnessed in the same area and at the same time.”

“Witnesses also said that the UFO has been as big as a ball, with a yellow ray and a bright reddish color in the center. They also stated that the object has been flying at a very low altitude,” FNA said.

In another Jan. 17 incident in Iran that made news worldwide, multiple witnesses reported a “crash” of a UFO.

FNA also covered that story and reported, “Last Wednesday, a UFO crashed in Barrez Mounts in the central province of Kerman. Deputy Governor General of Kerman Province Abulghassem Nasrollahi told FNA that the crash, which was followed by an explosion and a thick spiral of smoke, has caused no casualties or damage to properties.”

“Eyewitnesses assured that the explosion has been caused as a result of the crash of a radiant unidentified flying object onto the ground. The source also said that the crash has been witnessed by people in several cities, and mentioned that the rendezvous point was located 100 kilometers from the provincial capital city of Kerman,” FNA reported.

Nasrollahi told FNA, “People in the city of Rafsanjan also reported to have witnessed a similar incident several days ago. Similar crash incidents have been witnessed frequently during the last year all across Iran, and officials believe that the objects could be spy planes or a hi-tech espionage device.”

U.S. SURVEILLANCE AND PSYOP

It is reasonable to consider that some sightings of unusual objects in the skies above Iran could be part of U.S. operations.

Back in February 2005, Washington Post writer Dafna Linzer reported that, “The Bush administration has been flying surveillance drones over Iran for nearly a year to seek evidence of nuclear weapons programs and detect weaknesses in air defenses, according to three U.S. officials with detailed knowledge of the secret effort.”

Linzer wrote, “The small, pilotless planes, penetrating Iranian airspace from U.S. military facilities in Iraq, use radar, video, still photography and air filters designed to pick up traces of nuclear activity to gather information that is not accessible by satellites, the officials said. The aerial espionage is standard in military preparations for an eventual air attack and is also employed as a tool for intimidation.”

Linzer also reported that, “U.S. officials confirmed that the drones were deployed along Iran's northern and western borders, first in April 2004, and again in December and January.”

“A former U.S. official with direct knowledge of earlier phases of the operation said the U.S. intelligence community began using Iraq as a base to spy on Iran shortly after taking Baghdad in early April 2003. Drones have been flown over Iran since then, the former official said, but the missions became more frequent last year.”

“The spring 2004 flyovers led Iran's military to step up its defenses around nuclear facilities in the southern cities of Isfahan and Bushehr, where locals first reported the UFO sighting. Defenses were added around those sites and others last month, Iranian officials said, after it became clear they were being observed by the drones,” Linzer wrote.

So, there seems to be tentative identification of one possible explanation for some objects in the skies above Iran. But is that the complete explanation? U.S. surveillance and psychological operation (PSYOP) intimidation?

Linzer’s reporting seems to verify that some of the objects seen by Iranian citizens could be U.S. surveillance drones, efforts at PSYOP or some other U.S. effort.

But, if we look back a few years, we find that an incident over Tehran, Iran’s capital, took place in 1976. And this encounter seems to be something entirely different.

THE 1976 TEHRAN UFO INCIDENT

One of the more interesting UFO cases occurred in the skies of Tehran on Sept. 19, 1976. It started when citizens reported seeing an unusual object in the sky.

The Wikipedia online encyclopedia states, “The incident is well-documented in a U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) report with a distribution list that included the White House, Secretary of State, Joint Chiefs of Staff, National Security Agency (NSA), and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).”

Wikipedia notes that, “Various high Iranian military officers directly involved with the events have also gone on public record stating their belief the object was an extraterrestrial craft.”

According to the book, CLEAR INTENT: THE GOVERNMENT COVERUP OF THE UFO EXPERIENCE by Barry Greenwood and Lawrence Fawcett, after reports started coming in from people in Tehran seeing this UFO, a decision was made to scramble an F-4 jet from Shahrokhi Air Force Base.

Greenwood and Fawcett wrote, “The plane left the runway at approximately 1:30 a.m. to intercept the UFO. The plane sped toward the large, bright unknown which lay some 70 miles north of them.”

“About half way there, the plane began to experience communication problems. Instrumentation was also faulty, so the pilot dropped off course, heading back to Shahrokhi.”

“Another F-4 left the air base, attempting to identify the UFO. As the second jet approached the UFO, they made radar contact. Crew members stated that the size of the radar return was similar to that of a 707 jet. The actual size of the object was impossible to determine visually because of the brilliance of the glowing object. The jet drew nearer to the UFO.”

“For a time, the F-4 bridged the distance between itself and the UFO, but even flying above Mach 1, the UFO suddenly shot away from the F-4. This incredible burst of speed was confirmed by the plane's radar and also visually. The pilot of the F-4 was not able to gain any ground on the UFO, but managed to pace it as they sped through the skies,” Greenwood and Fawcett wrote.

“The crew of the plane would later say that the UFO had strobing lights arranged rectangularly. The lights alternated from red, blue, green, and orange in color. The plane's crew was astonished to see another, smaller object emerge from the large UFO. The plane and UFO were now flying south of Tehran. The smaller object made a bee line to the F-4 moving at incredible speeds.”

“Fearing for their very lives, the pilot aimed an AIM-9 missile at the approaching object, but just as he did, the weapons control panel went off line, and he lost all communication.”

“The only course of action left was to dive to try to avoid a collision with the approaching UFO or weapon. The approaching object followed the plane into its dive briefly, but then tailed off, and returned to the larger UFO. All functions were again on line as the UFO left the jet behind,” according to Greenwood and Fawcett.

Answers.com includes additional information about this incident. When the air force pilot attempted to land at Mehrabad airport after this encounter, something else happened: “As the F-4 was on final approach, they sighted yet another object, cylinder-shaped, with bright, steady lights on each end and a flashing light in the middle.”

“The object overflew the F-4. Mehrabad tower reported no other aircraft in the area, but tower personnel were able to see the object when given directions by the F-4 pilot. Years later, the main controller and an investigating general revealed that the object also overflew the control tower and knocked out all of its electronic equipment as well,” according to Answers.com.

UFO INTEREST IN NUCLEAR SITES, WEAPONS

One thing that U.S. surveillance drones and alleged extraterrestrial visitors have in common is an interest in nuclear sites and weapons, not only in Iran, but worldwide.

Many very unusual and frightening UFO incidents have occurred over the U.S. near nuclear weapons sites and nuclear facilities. Other nations have reported similar activity.

One theory that is a recurring theme among researchers of the UFO phenomena is that extraterrestrials visiting Earth, if we assume for a moment that this could be true, are interested in preventing nuclear war here.

Some researchers claim that specific and concrete communication with between extraterrestrial visitors and average people, as well as government officials, have made this clear.

There have been references in some UFO research to a concern by extraterrestrial visitors that a nuclear war on Earth could not only severely damage life on this planet, which they would see as unfortunate, but could also affect other habitats, life and the environments outside of Earth.

Recent UFO incidents in Iran may or may not have something to do with these kinds of theories.

However, the increasing nuclear research and development in Iran, and increasing tensions with the U.S. and the international community would certainly fit in with this perspective.

WORLDWIDE PHENOMENA

Many sightings do not seem to be related to nuclear sites. The recent UFO sightings in the U.S. for example, at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, in Arkansas and most recently in Hawaii are examples.

UFOs and very unusual encounters have been reported in countries around the world. All types of objects have been reported: Disc-shaped, cylindrical or “cigar-shaped," triangle and boomerang-shaped objects. Sometimes UFOs seem to be just glowing lights of some kind, often making interesting movements in the skies.

Some strange lights seen by people around the world may be much more down to Earth and fall into the category of “Earth lights.” These may be natural radiation and/or electromagnetic phenomena that create usual dancing lights.

At the same time, many researchers insist that beings from several extraterrestrial civilizations are visiting us. Some of these visitors may be friendly. Some may be a danger.

Some people theorize that friendly extraterrestrial visitors, far more advanced than humans in many ways, may be trying to guide us through a dangerous phase of our development. They may be trying to help prevent a nuclear war as part of this assistance and guidance.

There may be many agendas in play regarding the UFO phenomena – agendas on the part of extraterrestrial visitors and agendas of government officials and others who have inside information about what is going on.

Reports of temporary abductions of humans often include theories that some visitors are taking human DNA for some reason, possibly to create mixed-race children or have samples of the human race after we destroy ourselves.

Specific kinds of visiting beings have also been described: “The Grays,” short, thin with big heads and big eyes are a common type reported. “The Nordics,” also called “the handsome people” are another part of UFO lore. Reptilians and other kinds of beings are also reported.

Other theories include ideas that angels or beings from other “higher” dimensions could be visiting and watching us. Interesting lights we see might be our own loved ones who have passed on, people who long ago evolved to become higher spiritual beings, part of God’s glowing energy and light. Some people believe they are here to watch over us, guide us and help us.

Maybe, probably, many things are occurring simultaneously.

Whatever the truth or fantasy of these accounts, some things seem to be clear: Instead of waging war, killing each other and developing more destructive weapons, we might consider constructive and peaceful approaches when possible.

Instead of destroying the natural resources and climate of this planet, we might want to take special care of our Earth. We humans live on a small and somewhat fragile planet. It is a beautiful place that deserves our care.

And we humans, with all our failings and faults, have the potential to achieve great things, great beauty and great happiness on this planet – and perhaps, beyond.
