Ghost hunters visit motel

GRANTS - The Economy Inn on Santa Fe Avenue had some eerie guests Wednesday evening. They were there to see if they could find an ephemeral resident.

A group of ghost hunters was informed via the internet that the place was haunted.
According to members of the group S.P.I.R.I.T., legend has it that a maid was murdered while bringing towels to a man on the third floor.

Reportedly, screams and footsteps can be heard in a room on the second floor.

Members traveled from Alamogordo to spend an evening on the third floor investigating the claim.

Warren McCrary, a lead investigator said members of the group Southwest Paranormal Information Research and Investigation Team are investigators. “We are not ghostbusters,” he said.

By using cameras and other recording equipment, the team intends to prove or disprove any given legend.

Members do not get rid of a spirit, only record its presence if it chooses to appear. Or they document that there was no appearance. “We do not summons a spirit,” he said. The team waits, watches, listens, observes and documents evidence, he added.

McCrary said, “we will not deal in any case involving demons. We leave that to someone else.” he added.

It was water cooler talk that brought the group together. All the members of the group live in Alamogordo and work for the military. Light conversation during break time began to reveal that there were several people working in the same facility who had a common interest in the paranormal. Some in the group are religious and others are not, they said during Wednesday night's research.

But there is a common goal. That goal is to prove or debunk myths, urban legends and other sightings.

Members were still reviewing their research and results were unknown as of press time.
