New Mexico, home of aliens?
A new state-financed advertising campaign designed to attract visitors seems to suggest that. Instead of highlighting New Mexico's picturesque desert landscapes and centuries-old culture, the ads feature drooling outer space office workers chatting about their personal lives.
The 30-second TV spots, billing New Mexico as "the best place in the Universe," were created to be funny and bold. Very vocal critics worry the reptilian spacemen will frighten away tourists, threatening the state's $5.1 billion tourism industry.
Ironically, the ad doesn't even reference New Mexico's famous alien connection -- the legend that a UFO crashed near Roswell in 1947.
Oh well, maybe they can lure the next "Star Trek" convention.
