NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- Bats are often used to frighten people on Halloween, but a nature conservancy wants folks to think kind thoughts about the gentle creature.
The Nature Conservancy in New York wants folks to know the flying rats are really our friends because they eat bothersome insects like mosquitoes and also cross-pollinate many plant species.
Although they may be friends to humans, a spokeswoman says they're not encouraging people to have a bat as a pet, nor hope they'll loose their Halloween edge.
She says "they're edgy animals."
