Loralee Schultz's 9-year-old rotwieller "Tasha" disappeared three weeks ago, "I've had another neighbor that came to me looking for his dog. That's how we realized there was a pattern."

Now, Shultz says she isn't letting her other dog "Luke" out of her sight, "They're not allowed out to go potty on their own."

Lincoln County Sheriff's investigators believe the dogs, all of them large breeds, may have been stolen for clandestine reasons. Though he has no solid evidence, Lt. Rick Harrell says, "A lot of these animals could be resold to medical testers."

Harrell notes that Lincoln County doesn't have leash laws for dogs, and thieves know it. "This is the ideal environment for a thief. A lot of times it's as simple as opening the car door and the animal will jump in."

Frustrated and worried dog owners are doing anything they can to spread the word about their missing pets. In fact, a Winfield variety store has become a clearing house of hope.
