Sure...after you explain to us how an omniscient/omnipotent/omnipreset being can come into existence by accident. |
Well butter head, He never was born and has always existed. Hard to wrap your mind around, huh? ...must be your accident 'cause it sure as hell ain't mine. I can see why so many have a problem w/ that. I'm glad I don't...but then that's my choice. You can call it theory. I am sure that pleases you...but answer me this; what the hell does an agnostic/ atheist like you have reasoning for using a handle like "event_horizon"?
Interacting with an event horizon
A misconception concerning event horizons, especially black hole event horizons, is that they represent an immutable surface that destroys objects that approach them. In practice, all event horizons appear to be some distance away from any observer, and objects sent towards an event horizon never appear to cross it from the sending observer's point of view (as the horizon-crossing event's light cone never intersects the observer's world line). Attempting to make an object approaching the horizon remain stationary with respect to an observer requires applying a force whose magnitude becomes unbounded (becoming infinite) the closer it gets.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Event_horizon
...from your query you intimate that infinity to the past isn't so...am I wrong?...and if so that means some tacit form of an event or existence has always been... can't have it both ways....event_horizon...

That's interesting, because I feel the same way.
For instance....in my job I am required to have like fifty thousand passwords.
I "remember" these passwords, yet when someone asks me what it is, I can't mentally "remember", yet I can sit down at a keyboard and readily type it out....
almost as if my fingers "remember" even though my "brain" doesn't.
I truly believe that body parts possess an individualized memory. |
I do that when I write and play on the piano...can't remember the name, but I remember the tune. That is called "rote". There is an old saying:
"Repetition strengthens and confirms habit; and faith becomes natural." |

I find I operate best with that sort of memory....just relaxing the mind and letting activity, routine, and habit "teach" rather than try and pour over something to infinity.
It's like driving....when i get behind the wheel i just let my hands do the driving, let my eyes do the seeing, without "me" really being all too engaged in the process....a strange thing really. |

This fellow assumes that G-d is a delusion. He equates religion with G-d...not necessarily true. He just missed a god thang. Truth. What he criticizes faith as being non-thinking is a philosophical error. -
Meditation is a form of G-d/nature connection that has proven to slow the heart beat and lower blood pressure. I lower mine with this technique and it works. So much for concluding that thinking of nothing or "non-thinking" is worthless.
http://www.webmd.com/hypertension-high-blood-pressure/guide/treating-hypertension-naturally
"We should not be restricted to critique religion."...on this I agree.
He makes generalities about religion. I wonder what all he describes as religion?
Dawkins: "...not to think, not to doubt; not to probe...if we could retain the faith, against the evidence, in the teeth of reality, the more virtuous we are."
...is a cynical definition that intimates a faith in G-d as ant-intellectual. If G-d did not exist; love, the search for compassion and the rote appreciation for nature without scientific scrutiny in his world would be useless anyhow. What a pity that love (sometimes called God) is simply not available. The man is an arrogant buffoon. His intellectual pretext serves his front as being assumably correct about his view (opinion) is such an obvious put to shill his opinion with the facade of scientific scrutiny..
...he equates a faith that one believes one self to be a Napoleon with a faith in love, compassion, and rote appreciation for nature (these are godly pursuits we can enter in). The first is a faith in self-ego; the second is a faith in the ethereal pursuits of life. Polar opposites. He is a quack.
His dichotomy smacks of passive aggressive hyper-criticism. Not very objective for a "scientific" mind.
He defines belief in G-d as a superstition. I would assume from this acrimonious crack that he feels the same about love...he dots his commentary with prejudgments...etc...real open minded...
He swells w/ cynicisms..if these rituals only bring hope to peoples lives, why slam them? to make them "smarter' or wiser?
I could go on w/ this Inga; but really. ..be an atheistic intellectual and assure yourself all the self confidence one can get from such as this. It seems to please Humphreys perfectly and event_?horizon well.

As science investigates connections between the mind and the body, some scientists have found that a person's faith can help him or her live a longer, healthier life [source:Yang]. Prayer may lower blood pressure and heart rate, both of which can contribute to a more virile immune system
Other studies have found that people who are religiously active tend to be healthier. This may be due to the power of prayer, but it could also be explained by a tendency toward clean living, as many religions call upon their devotees to foreswear health risks like alcohol, cigarettes and casual sex. In addition, people active in their communities of faith may receive the help of social bonds within their religious groups. One study at the University of California - Berkeley factored in smoking and other lifestyle choices and still found that religious people have less risk for disease and death [source: Yang].
..and this at friggin berkley. Go figure.
http://health.howstuffworks.com/prayer-healing.htm
..of course there are contrary studies that indicate prayer as useless.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article1072638.ece
Possible Benefits
While there was no positive result on prayer for the main result, Krucoff says there was a suggestion of benefit in other specific areas.
Emotional distress before the heart procedure and death six months after the procedure were lower in the music/imagery/touch group.
..."That two-tiered therapy appears [to have] an effect on six-month rehospitalization and death that suggests that it may behave differently than just the prayers said for a specific individual patient," says Krucoff.
... Placebo Effect?
The patients weren't told who was in the prayer group and who wasn't.
The researchers gave them surveys to see which group the patients thought they were in. Two-thirds of those who weren't in the prayer group stated that they believed they were in the prayer group.
That belief could have affected the results. Krucoff says he and his colleagues will look at that possibility in the future.
http://www.webmd.com/balance/guide/20070201/does-prayer-help-others-heal
(WebMD) -- When Aretha Franklin crooned the words "I say a little prayer for you" in the hit 1960s song she probably didn't imagine that the soulful pledge would become the stuff of serious science. But increasingly, scientists are studying the power of prayer, and in particular its role in healing people who are sick.
Most research in the field looks at how people who are sick are affected by their own spiritual beliefs and practices. In general, these studies have suggested that people who are religious seem to heal faster or cope with illness more effectively than do the nondevout.

The problem with any discussion of religion on the internet today is that it always ends up with self-proclaimed atheists bashing religion and preventing any real discussion of religion at all. Their endless false claims of victim-hood as regurgitated by Dawkins have worn thin on the American landscape. People are sick and tired of the endless bashing of religion without the slightest evidence to back up anything that is claimed. Their constant bitching about how religion did this or religion is responsible for that, its all a bunch of hogwash cooked up by left-wing whack jobs who simply want to install socialism and use anti-religious bigotry as their weapon.
Good news, the American people have figured this out themselves.
Unfortunately, the bigots are handed weapons to use mostly by Christians who know very little about their own religion and simply choose the path of least resistance by agreeing with the bigot.
Who says I have to leave my religion somewhere? I'm not leaving my religion anywhere. A person comes with their beliefs. Take the package deal or shop somewhere else. Why have a religion if you are going to leave it somewhere? Nobody asks a scientist to leave rational deduction at the lab!
Religion is a philosophy. Science is a philosophy. Religion is based on faith and dogma. Science is based on scientific method and rational deduction. What's wrong with having both? God never said, "Don't use your brain", although the Catholic church certainly did in centuries passed, hence the Protestant reformation. And the Jewish religion always encompassed the concept of a changeable religion (although denied by some) not based solely on some document. I can't speak to the Muslim religion.
It is unfortunate that so many people have failed to explore what religion has to say. And people turn away from religion based on statements from people who either know nothing about it whatsoever or don't like it because it has a set of rules. It says, "Don't do this" and "don't do that." And those are the very things these atheists want to do. That's how they justify abortion, the systematic murder of innocent children who haven't yet developed the ability to scream.
The dirty little secret of the socialist left is that they seek to eliminate anyone who will stand in their way of absolute power and enslavement of the entire earth. Its all about the power (hence the statement in my signature). |

The exploding/dying stars, colliding galaxies, and asteroids and comets that can wipe out a planet's inhabitants at anytime, black holes, and the infinitely random distances distributed between stars and galaxies speak for itself (it's far from perfect).

I've got quite an imagination. I just don't believe in an Invisible Man watching me all the time, planning and guiding my whole life -- it's called grandiose type delusional disorder (or biblically brainwashed). |

What planet are you living on? Ever heard of the Crusades? Ever heard of 9/11 and what has transpired since? Religion has everything to do with most of the killing in the world today. Wake up. Religion is a cancer.
And there should be certian rules in place regarding abortion and other such issues, but you don't need religion to put those laws into effect. Religion is supposed to be separated from the state. I'm not some left-wing nutjob who wants to change what's morally right. For instance I don't think a child that has a heartbeat should be aborted, but before that I think it's okay. It's you people that want to have it your way because you believe every sperm cell has a "soul." |

I am living on earth and unfortunately with a lot of nutjobs. You had to go back almost 1000 years to find an example? What the hell does religion have to do with 9/11? I thought 9/11 was an inside job? Can't have it both ways.

Actually you do need religion because the very arguments the pro-abortion folks use is anti-religion based. They claim its ok to kill babies because morality is b.s.

"When" hasn;t happened yet, let us all know when it does! I'm sure you are hoping, in the mean time you might consider your own soul waiting.

In my opinion man can never destroy God, but man can destroy an individuals belief in God, and has everyday.
Saturos, does it make you happy if you are able to influence someones beliefs against God, disbelieving, or disobeying what they think God has commanded? |

Wonder how many fallen civilizations prayed to their "god" to save them.....(thinking...Rome, Persia, Egypt, Babylon, Atlantis, Mu)....yet nothing came down in the fancy space-ships, nor galloping in on great white horses....
They all just fell....of their own selfish volition.....taxing the lay people as they went.....or "inquisitioning" them to death.
And so it goes.... |
