Talk about procrastination! I've had this $400 Vista Ultimate for
1 1/2 months and I still haven't installed it. I've backed up all my
photos, still have to delete my third party firewall (no biggie),I've
downloaded the updated Vista drivers for my N-force chipset and the
SLI Nvidia drivers for my display adapters( ). One of the reasons
I've been 'fudging" is that someone has said my Tiger Woods 2007
won't work with Vista.....and well that ain't happening! Also my 1115
Hp photo printer has issues as well......however, I also have an HP
7450 photo printer that will work. Also I haven't really decided on
whether or not to zero out my HD.......A couple hours I'd guess.
So all I really need to do is delete my 3rd party firewall and switch
out printers in that I have the updated drivers now on disk. Oh yeah...
reset the boot sequence in my bios to cd rom first.............. |

| Why don't you partition your hard drive and throw Vista on the other side? You can then keep your XP Pro and have Vista too. Dual boot is the way to go until they get all the compatibility issues/bugs worked out of Vista. There's no way in hell that i'd only have Vista on my machine at this point in the game. With a dual boot, when something doesn't work on Vista I can just reboot into XP Pro and use it. I've also installed a 160GB external SATA drive that I use to install games on for Vista and XP, it saves space on the main hard drive and can be used by both OS's. |

I would but all I have is an 80gig Raptor in there and 20+gig is already
in use. I know they recommend at least 30gig for Vista(13gig actual
OS) and I might just not have the room........Now the external SATA II
drive does sound viable................ |

I also only have an 80 Gig internal hard drive. My XP Pro gets 50 Gigs of it and Vista gets the other 30. I've got around 10 Gigs still available on Vista and around 11 on XP. That's why I'm using the 160 Gig SATA II external. I've installed all my games and other large apps (Photoshop, etc.) for both OS's on it. It's NTFS and can be seen and used by both Operating Systems. You should be able to pick up an all-in-one for around $100. Or you could just buy the bare hard drive for around $50-$60 and then get a powered enclosure for it for around $30. The good thing about an external hard drive is that it's portable. I also store Application install files and backup files on it, so I can just unplug it from one computer and plug it into another and run install files and/or add/remove files from it. |

I might also have an issue with my two 6600 GTs. Even though I have
two running in SLI they are only 128 bit interface and may have a
problem with Vista's 256 bit interface. Nvidia sez I can run Vista
in that I meet minimum requirements but fail the recommended or
the optimal ones. |

I can't begin to tell you how much I hate my Windows Vista. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. Very few programs/software are Vista friendly ... there are no drivers available for Vista. I hate it!
Last week, I purchased a brand new, top of the line, Sony digital camera. Do you think for one second that my NEW Sony picture software would be Vista compatible? Hell NO. Just like every other freakin' program I've loaded on my new Windows Vista PC, it's not Vista friendly.
Hook up my printer? Ha! Forget it! No drivers. Not Vista compatible.
Vista... Whatta waste of time, energy and money.... it's biggest pile of crap since Jumbo the elephant died.

Veeestaaaaaa............Well after 18 hrs of "thrashing" I now have the
bloated gluttonous Vista OS on my comp. Not without incident...in
fact the last little hurdle is finding a driver to replace my MPU-401
midi controller in that Vista doesn't like it and there is a huge
compatability issue. My sound works fine ...but I still have that
"other device". Tiger Woods doesn't work and Vista is a turn key
operating system with DVD, multimedia, and widgets galore. It's
actually pretty fast....Vista Ultimate. Anyway it's a learning experience.
But every vendor out there has had lots of time to prepare for the
coming of Vista and those '"lackeys" dropped the ball...Big time! |

One of the things i've seen a noticeable improvement in with Vista is Audio quality (via my Audigy 2 ZS sound card). All my audio seems clearer and crisper. It's almost studio quality sound. Perhaps it's because Vista 64 can take full advantage of my card's 24 bit sound reproduction capabilities.
I know one thing for sure, XP doesn't even come close to the sound quality I'm hearing in Vista. It's sooooo much better that if I'm in the mood to listen to music, I make sure I'm booted into Vista instead of XP. |

Everything is working fine. In fact, this OS "smokes" XP in the
speed department. Nero Ultra handles the burning fine as I prefer
it to the default software in Media Center. However, I do like the
default DVD player in Media Center. Ninor is right about the sound.
Even the "Last FM" sounded markedly better. And did I say Vista
does everything fast?? Sorry bloo-tiful......Vista rules. Did I say
Tiger Woods 2006 plays flawlessly in XP sp2 compatibility mode?
Tiger Woods 2007, however, still has a glitch but the next NVIDIA
driver set addresses that and SLI for G-Force 6/7 series. That
should give me another "bump". It's only going to get better from
here on out. |

speaking of vista and other operating systems..im currently running a dual boot system xp pro sp2/suse10.0..the current version on xp sp2 im running is illegal cause of all the B.S. constant updates i just want to do some hard core gaming with minimal bitching..linux would be much better..but we all know the legal/prog. limitations. dx 10 etc. im looking into buying a laptop with my interest free dollars that i loaned to the federal govt.(taxes) but all i can find is proprietary HARDWARE. all of these laptops wont allow anything but VISTA to be used on them..cant even partition them dual boot blah blah..hell i bought a SLI motherboard that wouldnt even let me flash the bios..seems to me microsoft has a firm grip on firm..ware
frustrated with vista limitations and deleted the BETA version from my bkp hdd.
i wont swallow vista as easily as others...i love the potential of vista but i hate the restrictions of it as well |
